UFC 108 PREVIEW: Yvel vs. Dos Santos
GueRRillaFight.com - 1.02.10
The Heavyweight offering features a compelling match up between Gilbert Yvel and Junior Dos Santos. It is a bout that pits two warriors with contrasting styles and different levels of experience in what promises to be a battle laden with excitement.
Yvel is dangerous yet erratic but never fails to put on a show. He recently Ko'd Rizzo in the summer of '09 and also has the only KO win over Kongo on record several years ago. He fights with reckless abandon and hasn't seen many scorecards in his bouts. The Hurricane is wild and unpredictable and he even has a KO win over the referee in his bout vs. Backman five years ago. Yvel needs to bring his best game to the Octagon as his cage aggression and experience can be used to make up for his perceived slight size disadvantage against Dos. Yvel needs to take over the match early and dominate using big strikes to gain confidence while swarming Santos. It's a simple game plan for Yvel.
Dos Santos is 9-1 with recent victories over top contenders Mirko and Werdum. His last 3 victories have been with punches despite his training with Nog as a ground fighter. This is a legitimate heavyweight contender with a 6-4 238lb. solid frame to compliment his skills. He has several ways to win this bout and needs to avoid early damage and control Yvel.
The line has Santos -300 and though Yvel is very dangerous early, I think Dos Santos is on his way to a title shot and will win this one via TKO in round 2....
